Occupational Therapy Assistant Student Perceptions of Multi-site, Single Site, and Simulated Level I Fieldwork

Fieldwork education is the practical application of an occupational therapy education. Level I fieldwork important component that introduces students to clinical setting for basic understanding client interactions. Quality programs in are more difficult procure than ever before due critical shortages placements. Additionally, COVID-19 pandemic continues have a major impact on all medical professions. The need remodeling possibilities has significantly increased. This study compares across three modalities recognized by American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) standards: simulated, virtual environment; faculty-led visits single site; and supervision educator multiple sites. It different instructional modes fieldwork, with intent contribute body evidence-based practice education, before, during, after crisis. A survey was administered measure cohorts students’ perceptions their experiences, including occupation-based interventions, engagement clients, use practice, exposure assessments influence skilled therapeutic effective problem solving application, confidence levels design implement interventions. Data collected from indicated largely responded favorably regardless modality, provided evidence modifications may be needed each experience.
